Amazing experience. The captain and Ali were very attentive and helpful. Loved the snorkeling. I highly recommend Gung-ho sailing if you want to avoid the large snorkeling tours.

Ali and K’Ahi gave us an absolutely unforgettable sailing experience in Maui. From the moment we stepped on board, they made us feel welcome, relaxed, and completely taken care of. Their knowledge of the area, the ocean, and marine life added so much depth to the trip—it felt like more than just a sail, it was a true experience. The boat itself was beautiful and well-kept, and every detail of the day felt thoughtful and seamless. Ali and K’Ahi struck the perfect balance of being attentive while also giving us space to soak it all in. We had incredible views, great conversation, and just the right mix of adventure and relaxation. What really stood out was their genuine passion for what they do. You can tell they love sharing Maui from the water, and that energy made the entire trip even more special. If you’re looking for a sailing experience in Maui, this is it. We would book with them again in a heartbeat.

Highly recommend! We went as a family of five with younger children and it was so much better than one of the group tours if you can do it. Our Captain/Guides were so nice and it was great to be able to hear about their experiences in Hawaii, with sailing and just life. Very relaxing cruise, beautiful sights and while you aren’t guaranteed on the wildlife front, we were lucky to see whales and tons of fish/coral. No turtles this time but the tour the day before did - luck of the draw!

We went on their sunset sail yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. The experience was peaceful, low key, fun, and adventurous all at the same time. It was refreshingly "no frills" in the best way... simple, authentic, and allowed us to slow down and focus on what really matters (being present and in the moment together). The views were majestic, and our hosts, Ali and Keahi, were incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout the trip. We brought our 6 year old and 11 year old, and they were so accommodating and thoughtful with our family. We were able to go snorkeling and they provided all the gear, which made it effortless. We saw a sea turtle, got to hold sea creatures, and had so much fun in the water. It was a special experience for our family. What stood out most was the chance to really slow down and just take it all in - the ocean, the sunset, the beauty, and the simplicity of being out on the water. This experience will become a core memory for our family that stays with us forever.

Owners were great and made everything easy from booking to helpful tips for parking to drinks on board. We had a great morning out on the ocean, snorkeling and saw some cool creatures. Would definitely recommend Gung Ho for small sailing outings with your family!

Very accommodating during a stormy seasonWe had a very nice sail with Gung Ho, but let me add some context to that.We arrived in Maui just a day or so after the “Kona Storm of 2026.” There had been a lot of flooding damage to roads, some restaurants were closed, and a few beaches had much of their sand washed away.To make matters a bit more interesting, a second storm was brewing and was scheduled to hit during the time we had our trip scheduled with Gung Ho. We went into a bit of a rescheduling mode, trying to find a good time to get the sail in.We were celebrating our parent’s 60th anniversary, and a sailboat ride in Hawaii was just the thing to do that. Dad had been deployed shortly after they got married, and Mom met him in Hawaii a bit later for a brief time together. And, their first summer together, they bought a sailboat before a house, living in a tent at the marina. Sailboats have been a huge part of their life for their entire 60 years. So we wanted to make an extra effort to get the sail in, even if the weather was a bit funky. And, it was very hard to pin down the best time for the sail. The sail itself was a bit wet, but it was better than the other days it could have been. We did get to see some whales, which is very common. But Dad and Mom had a wonderful time conversing with them, talking about the love of boats, and many other things.Gung-ho has great love for sailing, which is very evident in everything they do. They were a lot of fun during the sail, and did a great job communicating with us during the time leading up to the sail. I doubt they will usually have that much flexibility for everyone else; many people canceled their bookings during that stormy season. But we had a lovely three-hour-tour and came back in one piece. We highly recommend them. Thanks, Gung-Ho for being awesome people and sharing your joy of sailing the seas with those of us visiting from off-island!

We had an amazing, magical, evening sail with GungHo Sailing. Keahi and Ali were perfect hosts. It was such a relaxing evening sailing, but the real highlight was seeing multiple humpback whales breaching and tail-slapping. Ali was great at helping get pictures and videos which she downloaded to my phone. Being on a sailboat instead of a loud motor yacht made the experience so peaceful and intimate. Absolutely, a must do experience if you are in Maui, and next time we'll go on a morning snorkel trip.

What an incredible experience. This was both my wife’s and my first time sailing. Keahi and Ali, and not to mention it being off the coast of Maui, has set our bar for sailing very, very high. It was a great way to see the views of the island from a distance, we got better views of whales than we did on the separate whale cruise we went on, and Keahi and Ali were fun and wonderful. We saw a few crowded sailing boats out and about and were very thankful our first sailing experience was on a private sail. My wife isn’t even very comfortable with water and she felt safe and loved every second of it. To top it all off Ali shared a list of recommendations for the rest of the island with us. Every stop on her list we hit was a great recommendation we were glad to have. It took our Maui visit to the next level. I can not recommend Gung Ho Sailing enough. Go for a sail with Keahi and Ali. You won’t regret it.

My wife and I recently renewed our wedding vows on a sunset sail with Keahi and Ali, the owners of GungHo Sailing. Setting up the sailing and small ceremony took quite a bit of coordination. They are excellent sailors and even better people! They gave us some great advice on other activities and dining that were spot-on. You can't go wrong booking with them!

Outstanding family day sail & whale watching experienceWe did a day sail with whale watching as a family and it was excellent from start to finish. Ali and Kea are highly professional, calm, and clearly know exactly what they’re doing. This is not a generic tourist trip — it’s real sailing, done right. We saw multiple whales, had plenty of time to enjoy them, and Ali and Kea even took great photos for us, which was a big plus. Snacks and drinks were provided, everything was relaxed, well organized, and safe for the whole family. If you’re looking for a professional sailing experience on Maui with genuine whale encounters, GungHo Sailing is absolutely worth it. We would book again without hesitation.

Our sailing trip with GungHo was absolutely perfect for us as a newly ‘Maui’d’ couple! The crew created such a relaxed and romantic atmosphere. The views were breathtaking, and spotting whales along the way made it truly magical. We loved the peaceful vibe out on the water, and they even took gorgeous photos for us - a wonderful touch. We enjoyed our sail. They are very good people and we had a nice time talking with them. They have a lot of local insight about Maui and its history. If you want to sail and not just motor around on a catamaran this is where you want to go. You also do not have to share your sail with 20 other people you don't know.

We spent the morning on our last day in Maui with Keahi and Ali and it was the perfect end to our Hawaii trip. To start, they were able to accommodate us and helped my sister who is disabled to get on and off the boat. Then they brought us to a couple of locations for probably the best snorkeling that we have ever done - the fishes were beautiful, the coral was huge and we even saw a sea turtle swim by (my daughter's favorite part). Ali and Keahi are great hosts and we felt very safe around the water under Keahi's guidance. They also gave us some great restaurant recommendations! We would highly recommend GungHo Sailing to all of our friends and family.

This was our third trip through Gungho, and it will be the only charter we ever use. Keahi and Ali are gracious hosts and make the experience incredible. They have so much knowledge of the island. During the snorkel, Keahi would dive to the bottom and bring back urchins and other creatures for my kids to hold. Impressive even to the teens. They made sure we were comfortable and safe. The pineapple after the snorkel is one of the best bites you’ll ever experience. Ali took great photos of our group and simply airdropped them to us after. My wife and I had not sailed in a while and the strong winds on the evening we sailed made her nervous. Keahi and Ali couldn't have been more accommodating and reassuring. With Keahi's superior sailing experience all over the world, my wife immediately felt comfortable. We loved our conversation and learning more about the islands during our time with them. Great time and we would recommend this private sailing experience to anyone!

If you are searching for an authentic, private sailing experience around the beautiful island of Maui, then look no further! Prior to our vacation in Maui, we searched for a private sailing excursion for our party of four but seemed to only find large, shared catamaran experiences. Thankfully we managed to find GungHo Sailing, and after reading the story of Keahi and Ali, we knew that this was exactly what we had been searching for! Keahi is clearly a gifted sailor who possesses a deep passion for and knowledge of the craft. Together with Ali, the couple make wonderful hosts who provide great conversation throughout the excursion. Overall, the experience is seamless and could not be easier. Finding the slip in the harbor was completely painless, and we set sail within minutes of the introductions. The sailing itself was truly a great experience, as we got to enjoy the beautiful coastline of Maui while blissfully sailing along at sea. Overall, I would recommend GungHo Sailing to anyone who is looking for a private, quiet sailing experience!

I highly recommend GungHo Sailing. We took an evening sail with GungHo Sailing to whale watch. The crew was delightful and very knowledgeable. To whale watch without the noise and smell of a motor is very different from other whale watching experiences we have had. A great way to make a lasting memory!

We had sailed with the Gung Ho several times out of Lahaina and were sad to hear the boat was lost in the Lahaina fire. It was easily the best sailing charter we had ever been on. It was real sailing with real sailors, not the crowded, commercial experience we found on most of the whale watching and sunset sailing fleet. We were delighted to find that the Gung Ho crew has acquired a new boat, and they are now sailing out of Maalaea Harbor. We went out with them recently and nothing has changed except the vessel. We saw lots of whales, enjoyed a beautiful sunset and caught up with Keahi and Ali. Keahi Ho is the Gung Ho’s owner and captain. He’s also a Lahaina firefighter who fought the Lahaina blaze. He gave us a firsthand account of what it felt like to experience the Lahaina fire. Needless to say, this is a sailing experience like no other.
